Happy Friday

I haven't seen the sun today, in fact, it has been a few days. These clouds of gloom and moments of uncertainty remind us Pacific Northwesterners that the rain is here, again, to cleanse and rejuvenate our lovely surroundings. Ahhhhhh! I just can't wait to see it... sunshine and dry grounds with brightly colored flowers and green from the tallest of trees to the clovers under our feet. This is just one of the reasons The Green Chicks are so passionate about making an eco-friendly product that will help reduce waste and the human footprint on Earth.

The weather has given us ample time and reason to stay indoors working on the newest designs. We have listened to you and are making something wonderful. Better than chocolate cupcakes with buttercream frosting. I can't wait to show you!

On Top of the World

We aren't bashful when it comes to sharing in our excitement about what we do. At first thought, we wanted to create a product that we would use ourselves ~ something environmentally friendly and fun. Now, our goals reach higher and our mission reaches out in ways we never considered before.

The Green Chicks just got back from a photo shoot at the lovely Arboretum for the up and coming Crave of Portland book being released. Of course we will have copies available for all our fantastic supporters. We are super excited that we were presented with this opportunity. And, might I say, our photographer Colleen was amazing!

In March we will be going to the NW Women's Show in Seattle. If you are in the area, come check us out in person. We would love to meet our customers, pledgers, and supporters. We always have lots of fun at our shows, so you won't want to miss out.

Spring is in the air and we are prepping all the new designs for the online store. We are adding more retailers all the time. We will be snazzing up our site and adding more for you.

We would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to all of you. Thank you!

Bad, Bad Blogger!

I am admitting it now - I am the WORST blogger, maybe not in history, but in general. As time goes by, I envy those that blog on a regular basis, or even more than once a month! I will get it down to an art, you will see :)

The Green Chicks have been overly consumed with creating new product lines, meeting new people, and finding the *perfect* designs for our customers. We will soon be releasing a few new product lines that you are sure to love!

Our holidays were wonderful and crazy at the same time. The New Year brought upon the need to Organize and set our yearly goals. We are excited for 2009 because we have many things in store for our customers and followers.

We will be at the NW Women's Expo in Seattle, WA on March 27, 28, & 29. So if you are in the area, stop by and say Hi!

The Green Chicks?

Well, what can we say? Through the hilarious mispronunciation of our name, people are starting to recognize us as the Green Chicks. In the end, people figure out that Green Chic and Green Chicks have two completely different meanings, but still somehow it has stuck to us like glue. No, we are not complaining! Well, maybe at first... but really what better thing can happen than to get a nickname from your customers? Exactly. We are pleased and a little proud that our customers heart us so much!

Lookout!

Here we come!
This last month has been so full of fun and exciting times. However, over the next 30 days we have some even more exciting things coming out. Green Chic Bag Co. will be launching a new design and a totally new product! Seriously, you are all going to love it. I can't wait to share it with you.

Now I know there are a few of you that are dissapointed in the sell out of two (almost three) very popular patterns, i.e. Valerie and Carly (almost Paige). Unfortunately we can no longer get these fabrics. Keep checking back though, we are putting out some new styles and we are attempting to find similar designs.

This next month is going to bring a lot of media/press and events. We have quite a line up coming and we can't wait to see the reviews. If you happen to be in the Portland area, we would like you to stop by and see us at America's Largest Holiday Bazaar at the Portland Expo Center November 28-30 and Dec. 5-7. It is going to be tons of fun and you won't want to miss out.

Albertsons stores pulling BYOB incentives

I am constantly amazed by the ability of big business to play down the important of eco-friendliness. On a recent grocery trip to my local Albertsons grocery store I was stunned when made aware that they were no longer giving $0.05 off per BYOB. Of course, I asked the clerk if she knew why this was, and she did not. Well, that answer simply would not work for me because I have people (you) to answer to. When I asked the manager on duty, I was simply told to call corporate as she wrote down the number for me.

You better bet I called! Unfortunately, I am not important enough to speak to anyone and only received a voicemail in which to leave a message. My message was done and now I had to wait for a response. No response after day one, or day two, or day three. Finally! Day four brought news, but not from corporate, the store manager of my local store. It was explained to me that my inquiry was not important enough to receive a response from the person I left a message with. So, here I was on the phone with the manager once again.

Very kindly, the store manager described that Albertsons had removed it's discount for the reason that many cities are starting to charge for the use of store plastic and paper bags. Instead of charging it's customers $0.05 to $0.20 per paper or plastic bag, Albertsons had generously (sarcasm) decided offer these bags free of charge and thereby revoked their BYOB discount.

To sum it up, Albertsons grocery stores (according to the store manager) has made the decision to continue its offerring of paper and plastic bags free of charge whilst disouraging the use of a more eco-friendly option of reusable bags.

Is Albertsons promoting a wasteful environment?

If you are concerned about their "corporate decision" please feel free to write them a letter at the address below:
